Welcome to my blog! Between heavy peer pressure and my own acknowledgment that mass emails get boring, I have decided to document my 6 months in Cusco via this blog. I'll do my best to keep it constantly updated and entertaining.
Why am I in Cusco, Peru? Well, my good friend Alex from GW has been here since August working as Program Manager for a program called GirlSportWorks (GSW). She was working with one other colleage who decided she needed to return home in December, at the end of Peru's school year (opposite seasons...). That's when Alex emailed me, saying it may sound crazy, but you should apply for the position! After much thought, pros and cons lists, housing rearranging, interviews, and proposal writing, I was hired by GSW as Program Manager, and granted an extended leave of absense by Meridian, my DC place of employment to whom I am extremely grateful for allowing me this opportunity.
What is GirlSportWorks? GSW is a small nonprofit which facilitates an after-school program for girls at four schools in and around the city. The program's mission is to use sports as a means for promoting self-esteem, team building, and leadership in an open all female setting.
