My stroll in Lima...

En route to Huaraz, I flew from Cusco to Lima on an early evening flight. Once I got to Lima I had a few hours to kill before my overnight bus... being a gringa alone at night with a big backpack and having heard some nasty stories about Peru's capital, I was slightly skeptical about going into the city as opposed to just hanging out at the bus station. My cab driver proudly assured me that if I stuck to the main plaza I wouldn't have any problems.

So, I strolled around the Plaza de Armas, Lima's main plaza, and the surrounding streets. I came across a street right on the river which was filled with vendors selling various delicious comidas. It was quite the gastronomical tour... by the time I left the street I had successfully eaten a tamale, arroz con leche, a churro, a butifarra, and mazamorra morada (Google image these things if you're interested...).

The low point of my Lima stroll was, after I saw Michael Jackson on every tv screen I passed, I finally stopped to see what the deal was, and finally heard that El Rey de Pop had died. It was admittedly a sad moment for me- anyone who knows me knows I can't stand still to Billy Jean or Black or White.

I've never heard anyone rave about Lima... its food is definitely the main attraction, as far as I can tell. I didn't make it to the nicer neighborhoods, but I feel like I got as big of a taste of Lima as I needed (no pun intended HA!) I was too scared to bring out my camera, but here are some pics I found online so you can have a visual...
